Rescue of Zero! An Unusual Rescue!
One day Robocarl was at the beach enjoying himself sunning on the sandy sands. He swam for a while, enjoyed a glass of cold lemonade, and propped himself up on a lounge chair with his laptop and a book.
He sat there looking at the waves for a while, emptying his mind of thoughts and just looked at the waves rising, falling, crashing on the shore and then rolling back into the sea. It was so calming and meditative, rising, falling, crashing, rolling, rising, falling, crashing, rolling.
He fell asleep. His book and laptop fell with a thud onto the soft sand but he didn’t hear the sound.
As he continued to doze, snoring lightly, the waves were still rolling. The tide came in slowly, getting nearer and nearer. His laptop slowly floated out into the sea without him knowing it.
Somehow, something alerted him and he woke up all the sudden. He saw his laptop floating on the water and he thought about how weird that is, his laptop is not a lightweight one.
Saving The Laptop and…
Nevertheless he swam out and tried to grab his laptop. The current was strong and the laptop bobbed up and down. Try as he might, he couldn’t reach it.
Is it still worth to save his laptop? Wouldn’t it be damaged after all this time in the water? At last he made a grab and somehow his fingers hit a corner. He held on and pulled it towards himself. Then he swam back to the beach.
Strange ending for a relaxing day. But at least he got his laptop back, he would have a look at the damage later.
Despite the nap, having had a whole afternoon of sunshine and strenuous swimming, he felt tired out and he decided to hit the sack early. Just before shutting down his eyes, he made a mental note to himself to check his laptop first thing tomorrow in his office.
First Encounter with Zero!
Next day he went back to work. He remembered that the first thing he needed to do, was to check his laptop to ascertain the amount of damage done to it.
It was dark in his office. He put down his laptop and started to open the blinds.
A blue light was flickering just then. What theâŠ.? Is the laptop damaged beyond repair?
He opened up the screen and immediately saw a message appear.
THANKS FOR SAVING ME YESTERDAY
“Huh? What is this? What happened yesterday?” And he thought of his day at the beach. He could not recall anything particular about saving anybody.
YOU SAVED ME FROM THE SEA
IT WAS TRYING TO EAT ME
âWho are you?â Robocarl then realized that he had spoken out loud.
MY NAME IS ZERO
BECAUSE YOUR LAPTOP SAVED ME
I LIVE IN IT NOW
“Is this some sort of a joke?” Robocarl thought. He looked at the screen. Nothing new appeared. Then he spoke out loud again. âAitor must be doing his coding magic again.â
I AM NOT AITOR I AM ZERO
That was how he got to know Zero, the little alien, who came from a planet with an unpronounceable name. Well, he came up with the name Zero because the actual name is too difficult to pronounce (try it: Zhyruv7yjf4fbjujbgrutbfgkxbhjvxnhgcasrx).
How do you pronounce a number as part of a word?
When talking with Zero, he has to give names for everything because everything sounds different on his planet. That takes care of the vocabulary. Grammar, they have no problem. Zero seems to have an inbuilt translation device. So far, communications have been smooth.
One Week Later!
It has been a week and yet Robocarl still could not get over the fact that he has adopted a little alien. He brought Zero to the newspaper office and introduced him to the team: The Joker, Dr. Fard, Agent Moonwalker and Aailaa getting along with Zero very well. Even Aitor, the new IT Operator who recently joined, the introvert computer nerd, enjoys chatting with Zero.
Everybody started to know more and more about Zero and the planet he came from, Zeplozarra.
Moon decided to take on a new side project on Zero, to study and analyse him, find out everything she can about Zero. Finally after a month, she compiled her results:
Zeroâs abilities:
- Able to communicate with human beings with no language barriers
- Able to live inside a laptop or any other electrical and electronic devices like mobile phones, photocopier, TV, cameras, game consoles, washing machine, fridge, fitbit, clocks, watches, air conditioners, rice cookers, ovens and the list goes on….
Zeroâs capabilities:
- Sensitive to moods and emotions and communicates accordingly
- Mood changer â influences your moods to make you feel better
Zeroâs other specialties: UNKNOWN
Moon seems to sense, that Zero is much more complex than her initial study would tell. The glimpses of a naughty and lively side to Zero have been fun so far. It will be her ongoing project to uncover more about Zero. There are unpredictable times ahead⊠and she is looking forward to discover them.

I think it would be cool to live inside a mobile or a laptop don’t you? What sort of things would you get up to? I would have to “prank call” people for fun and mischief (not scams) how about you?
LOL! The beauty of fantasy stories is that anything can happen. Just let your imagination fly~~ laptops would not spoil even when soaked in the sea for days and an alien can appear out of nowhere. Sounds like you will be a great companion for Zero. He is very up to tricks and there is more to come…

Where is all our coffee Moony? I can remember you bought me for the whole week yesterday. I wanted to make coffee and the machine is empty?

Coming back to your wish, I had a talk with Dr. Fard and he thinks he could implant a chip in your head that allows communication and the visit of Zero in your head. He is going to test this first to know if it will work and not causing any kind of strange out of the ordinary changes to the human brain. He likes to know if you want to put yourself up as candidate in his experiments.

Well there is one of Zero’s abilities Moon didn’t mention. That is the ability to stop heavy objects sinking!

That was a great observation! Currently Zero is happy in the office. Does he have a hidden agenda? We do not know yet. Stay tuned, one day it might be revealed. Getting back to my experiments now…. talk to you soon.

Moony didn’t, because she likes to test if she can use a laptop as sunning seat on the sea by sitting on it. She took my laptop to test that in a pool of water, off course she said she thought it was Robocarl’s laptop, when seeing my laptop sinking to the bottom $%#$@!!!!

I would love to have an alien amidst my office. Actually there are lots of “aliens” there but not good ones LOL. If only they behave more normally!
Zero sounds like much fun. Maybe one day we can have a face-to-face meet with him? Hmm, should I be bringing a laptop to sea one day to see if I can catch an alien too? How interesting the world would become then.
Wow, the abilities of Zero sound tantalizing, how I wish I can develop some of them, especially the communications with others, that would be so cool and would probably make my life much easier.

Aliens in the office, hmm, I have to invent a catching device then. Wait, let me go seek Dr. Fard’s help, maybe he could invent a device to turn them into good aliens instead of catching them.

How about you start first to invent a way to keep my coffee in the office, there is no coffee, all is gone! it was full yesterday. You know I am getting grumpy without my coffee, Dr Fard is worse without coffee so good luck asking him…
