Welcome to another TV Series review, today we will review The Orville and compare it to Star Trek Discovery. Dr. Fard made me attentive and said I should have a look as he got many interesting ideas from this series to make new inventions on his own. Well with Dr. Fard you never know what he is up too, so I decided to give it a try and see if there is any danger for us in the months to come. Better be prepared than sorry.

It is a long time ago when I saw the older Star Trek series, so it was long overdue for a newer series and it finally arrived. So is Star Trek Discovery the new Star Trek series or do we have a discovery of The Orville as the new series?

Star Trek Discovery is the hope for Filmstudio CBS to conquer many paid viewers for this new series. In the same time period the new series called The Orville by Fox came out as well. Watching both series, I made a fantastic discovery indeed.

From everything I have seen and analyzed, I must say that the Star Trek Series is not a Star Trek Series and the not Star Trek Series is The Star Trek Series I waited for so long. Now how can that be you may ask? Let’s find out shall we?

The Orville is giving you all you were expecting of the original Star Trek series, it has very good CGI as well, maybe not that spectacular as Star Trek Discovery, but that was not the point. The Orville gives us that real Star Trek feeling back with the interesting stories, characters and comedy. All what we ever wanted. Look for yourself and decide. I believe you will not be disappointed as all episodes rock and make you grave to see how it continues. Second season of The Orville can be expected in fall 2018.

The Orville, The New Star Trek! What a Discovery!

Now the new Star Trek Discovery is more based on massive CGI spectacle and fighting scenes. The origin of interesting stories of discovering new worlds and species is somehow missing. There are some stories covering this, but the feeling as we know it from the older series is missing. It is not the same.

The biggest disappointment was the way they made the Klingons look. My first reaction was, that are no Klingons, just a new alien race the way they looked, but the makers of this new series decided these are the Klingons of this series. I think if they would have introduced them as another race, the series would have been much more original as that it is now.

Then there is the acting, the first couple of episodes I didn’t like the acting that much, it got better, but not as I am used to for calling it a good series. However the last episode was so lame and a big disappointment. Did they run out of funds?

So for who is this series? If you love the recent Star Trek movies from the cinema with lot’s of action and special effects then have a look and you might like it. However know that the real fun and jokes as well as the traditional storytelling are somehow missing.

If you are more for the old style what made Star Trek so famous, give The Orville a try, you probably will fall in love with this series as the episodes get better and better from one episode to the next one.

  1. Yes I’ve heard of this television series coming on and just saw a couple quick previews. I however believe that storytelling and the fun part of it being missing dad is going to be highly missed of course. So it seems as though I will have limited exposure to this television series. Thanks for providing that feedback.

    • Hi Andrew,

Did you had the chance to have a look at the Orville? Season 2 of the Orville has started as well and it is really good. Have a look when you get the chance.
